Curriculum/Focus for the Year

Compass School Tutorial
In the past year students examined and learned about their particular learning style or profile, identified types of strategies to better access their ability to learn and hold onto information and reflected upon and keep track of their successes and struggles as they worked within their regular academic program.
Students also reflected on their skills as a reader and
worked toward developing good reading strategies or reading “smarter” or more actively. As a collaborative group we focused on improving our ability areas in the following skills; dictionary use, spelling, vocabulary in context, recognizing & locating main ideas and supporting details and making connections or relationships to ideas through transitions and patterns of organization.
Our over arching goals for the year were:
Goals:
- to examine ways to better understand yourself as a unique learner
- to access strategies that complement your learning style and preferences
- to utilize technology to enhance student learning
- to recognize and practice the multiple ways of reading different types of text
- to work on improving the quality of your own writing process
As the Fall school year 2007 opens, students will be asked to reflect on their growth from the previous year and will be drafting or creating their own learning plans based on specific goals and objectives for the year.
