6. Read pp. 134-148  of photo copied textbook. Read with an eye to answer "Read to Discover" questions on pg. 134 and on pg. 142. Expain why the following people/events are important: John Locke, Benjamin Franklin, Articles of Confederation, Daniel Shays, Shay's Rebellion  due 9/19/07

7. Finish up homework from last night. Review questions that you didn't quite understand, or answers that weren't thorough. Make your answers to these questions more thorough. due 9/20/07

8. Reread the amendments to the U.S. Constitution.  Refer to your notes and study questions before you reread the amendments to remind you of when some important rights were enshrined in the constitution. 

Cirlce the ONE amendment that YOU think granted (in the case of the original bill of rights) or expanded freedom and liberty.    

Now imagine what two people on opposite sides of the issue might have thought about the passage of the amendment you chose.  Write a paragraph of at least 150 words from each person's perspective that discusses to what degree the amendment fulfilled the mission set forth by the preamble.  In each paragraph address the following questions: 

a) Does the amendment "establish justice" why or not why?   

b) Does the amendment "insure domestic tranquity" or not and why? 

c) Does the amendment "promote the general welfare" or not and why?

d) Does the amendment "Secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our posterity?"  Again, why or why not?   

9) Write a paragraph assimiliating the three divergent views expressed about the motivations of the framers of the Constitution. due 9/28/07

10) Read chapter 1-4 of Ragged Dick.  As you read take notes about some of RD's characteristics.  On one side of your paper, write the characteristic, (for example you might wirte he is extravagent).  On the other side opposite the characteristic, write a specific detail or incident that supports what you say about RD.  (Due 10/2/07)
