FLATTERY POEM:
DUE MONDAY, 10/16
“Flattery is like cologne water, to be smelt of, not swallowed.”
Josh Billings, US Humorist (1818 - 1885)
We could all use a bit of flattery, and Shakespeare’s rich language provides us with even more beautiful words with which to show our admiration and affection. Your task is to write a poem dedicated to a person in class (we will draw names) using the letters of that person’s name (an acrostic). You will need to use Shakespearian language, and at least one metaphor (see example below). You may try to use iambic pentameter, as an extra challenge. Here’s what I mean:
S Strong as the towering oak.
As fleet of foot as winged Mercury.
M Most handsome among men.
MUST HAVE:
MIGHT HAVE:
We will hand these to the people they are written for on Monday. Sharing will be likely. Grading on scale of N/A thru Outstanding. To get more than a good, you will have one or more of the first 3 “might haves.”
Have fun!
